A Rabies Awareness Programme was held at Dayanand Public School on 7th May 2025 at 10:30 AM, organised by the Biology Department. The session was conducted by Ms. Mousumi Chakraborty and her team from Tata Steel UISL, with the aim of educating students and staff about the seriousness of rabies and its prevention.
Veterinary Doctor Satish Raghorte graced the occasion with his team and delivered an informative session on the disease. He emphasized that rabies is a highly fatal viral disease, and raising awareness about it is crucial for public health. Dr. Raghorte highlighted that dogs are the primary carriers of the rabies virus, accounting for 90% of human cases. He explained that the virus is transmitted through the saliva of infected animals, with an incubation period ranging from 3 to 8 weeks.
The symptoms of rabies include hydrophobia (fear of water), high fever, and eventual paralysis. Dr. Raghorte stressed that the only effective treatment is timely vaccination, which can save lives if administered promptly after exposure.
The session was highly informative and served as a valuable educational experience for everyone present.
